Prophecy to Promise – Branch 2

“In many and various ways, God spoke to our ancestors by the prophets” (Heb 1:1). Building upon the foundational relationships established in the first branch, this branch explores how “the prophets speak of God reaching to his people, calling them back into a relationship with him.” It links directly to the preceding study of covenants by demonstrating how God actively “forms his people in the hope of salvation” even when they fall away. Here, pupils engage with the “expectant waiting for the Messiah,” exploring how figures like Isaiah and John the Baptist kept the hope of Israel alive.
This branch serves as the crucial bridge between the Old and New Testaments. By focusing on how the prophets “point to the fulfilment of God’s promise in a messiah, Jesus Christ,” it perfectly prepares the ground for the third branch. The anticipation cultivated in “Prophecy and Promise”—culminating in the mystery of the Incarnation and Mary’s definitive “Yes” to God—leads seamlessly into “Galilee to Jerusalem,” where that long-awaited promise finally walks the earth.
